School Life
Kilmacanogue is a happy and welcoming place for students, staff and families. We are an inclusive school, catering for children of all abilities and backgrounds. We pride ourselves on having a calm learning environment where all children can work, learn and play.
Kilmacanogue National School is a Catholic, mixed, vertical mainstream school which caters for a full range of classes from Junior Infants to 6th class. We have a Special Class for Children with Autism, which opened in 2024. We currently have 13 full-time teachers, 2 part-time Support Teachers and 6 Special Needs Assistants (SNA's).
The school day starts at 9.20am for all students. Junior and Senior Infants finish at 2pm all other classes finish at 3pm.
Kilmacanogue National School operates under the Rules for National Schools and the Departmental Circulars. We are funded by grants from the Department of Education and Skills (DES) and by other agencies where applicable. The school is subject to The Education Act 1998, The Education and Welfare Act 2000, The Education for Persons with Special Education Needs Act 2004, Equality Law and all other relevant legislation.
Kilmacanogue National School follows the curricular programmes as laid down by the Department of Education and Skills which may be amended from time to time in accordance with Sections 9 and 30 of the Education Act, 1998.
We have an active Parents Association who support the work of the school in a wide variety of ways.
We offer a number of after-school activities including Guitar, Yoga, Violin, Irish Dancing, Craft Club and Athletics.
